We would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of this land who have been stewards throughout the generations, the Abenaki People, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

After years of growing food and skills for our own family, we opened Snapdragon Homestead in 2025 on our three-acre property in scenic North Yarmouth, Maine. Our lively land is shared with one dog, two cats, a flock of thirteen hens, an angora rabbit, fourteen tilapia, and four busy children. Our 3,500-square-foot garden overflows with vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers, and dye plants—grown with care and ready to teach, share, and inspire.

Our land was once home to the North Yarmouth Methodist and Episcopal Church (later the North Yarmouth Community Church). The original church, built in 1830, was deconstructed in 1979, but the Vestry—built in 1871—still stands. The original parsonage burned in 1914; the parsonage that replaced it that same year is now our home. As we dig and plant, we often unearth fragments of that past, which deepens our connection to the people who lived here before us.

About Our Farm

Julia is our primary gardener, food processor, amateur herbalist, and teaches all the classes.

“In 2017, after many years working on small organic farms in the midwest, I bought a piece of land in the Downeast Maine woods and began my homesteading adventure. I was a dreamer, determined to make my family’s lifestyle as self-sufficient and inspired by nature as possible. By choosing one skill at a time to dive into, I gradually gained a great proficiency at self reliance and I can’t wait to pass that along to you! Over the years, people have said to me “I wish I knew how to knit!” or “Can you come show me how to graft my apple trees?” or “That’s so cool that you can make your own cheese!”. I truly believe that anyone can do these things and more, with the right guidance and some hands on experience. By introducing these skills into our lifestyles we create a connection with history, nature, and our community, as well an inherent pride in our own ability to provide for ourselves. I am always on a quest to learn how to do more, and know the world will be a better place when I pass my knowledge on to you. Get out there and make stuff!”
